KTBS 3 Freedom Fest

The KTBS-3 Freedom Fest is set to take place on July 4th, creating an evening of festivities, live entertainment, and fireworks! This annual event, produced by the City of Shreveport and KTBS-3, is held at the Riverview Amphitheatre and Plaza in Downtown Shreveport. The 2023 patriotic extravaganza offers a new twist that goes above and beyond the phenomenal Fireworks and Bakowski Bridge of Lights Show.

This year, the Freedom Fest will salute and celebrate the active United States military and veterans, expressing gratitude for their service and sacrifices that allow us to continue to commemorate American Freedom..

Following the military ceremony, attendees will be treated to a dynamic performance by the 90’s Tribute band, The Hollow Decks, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Spinner Entertainment will also be present, captivating the audience with their juggling, hula hooping, fire-blowing, and stilt walking performances, adding an element of “glowing” wonder and excitement to the event.

The highlight of the KTBS-3 Freedom Fest will be at 9:30 pm with a mesmerizing fireworks display, choreographed by Curtis Elkins of Pyromania Fireworks LLC, and accompanied by an Independence Day Light show created by Jason Lyons on the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge. The fireworks are generously sponsored by the City of Shreveport, Brookshire’s Grocery/Super 1, Hebert’s Town & Country, and Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Homes. Fireworks and the dynamic Light Show will paint the sky with vibrant colors, symbolizing the spirit of freedom and unity. The Hollow Decks will return to the Stage after the Fireworks and Light Show.

In addition to the captivating entertainment, the event will feature a smorgasbord of grilled goodies from the Shreveport Aquarium along with a full bar from the Aquarium Patio; ten food trucks offering delectable culinary delights from the Sci-Port Parking and the Aquarium Parking areas, an arts market showcasing the talents of local artists, engaging games and hands-on art activities for children led by Jerry Davenport, and the opportunity for attendees to work with famous area artist, Eric Francis to create a vibrant chalk art mural.

The KTBS-3 Freedom Fest is part of the ongoing Glo Fests created by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council that take place along the Red River, debuting new light shows created by local artists and Caddo Parish students every first Friday. This celebration of art and innovation adds an extra layer of excitement and creativity to the event, making it a truly unique and immersive experience.

This family-friendly event is free and open to everyone. Whether joining in person or watching the broadcast from home, all are welcome to come together and celebrate the spirit of patriotism and unity on this special day.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

To start Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Shreveport-Bossier City, area attorneys plan to shed light on the situation in a major way.

The month’s kickoff is the first “Lawyers Lighting up the Night Against Domestic Violence!” It will be Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Riverview Plaza, 601 Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway, with the lighting of the Bakowski Bridge, bathing it in purple in observance of the month.

The bridge will be lit in purple lights in the month of October, as a result of lawyers sponsoring the project. The initial goal was to raise money to light the bridge for one night. But the generosity of the lawyer donors resulted in enough funds to light the bridge for the entire month.

“Domestic violence is a community issue, and the fight against it requires a community effort,” says Caddo Parish District Attorney James E. Stewart Sr. “We appreciate the local attorneys who have pledged their support in shedding a light on this important issue.”

Area attorneys sponsoring the bridge lighting are Jacqueline Scott, Trey Morris, H. Lyn Lawrence Jr., Ronald J. Miciotto, Holland Miciotto, Shante Y. R. Wells, Courtney N. Harris, Ebony Rhodes Norris, Scott J. Chafin Jr., Eric G. Johnson, Todd M. Johnson and Ron Christopher Stamps.
